Kyrgyz Units of Measurement in Mathematics

This article extensively examines the historical, cultural, and pedagogical significance of traditional units of measurement used by the Kyrgyz people. In their nomadic way of life, the Kyrgyz people used national units of measurement specific to their culture to determine length, distance, weight, volume, and time. Over time, many of these traditional units have fallen out of use and are gradually being forgotten; therefore, integrating them into the educational process has become an important issue. The article explains the meaning and application of such measurement units as “karysh,” “kulach,” “at chabym,” and “kunchuluk zher” through various examples. It is also noted that the use of these units in mathematics lessons contributes to the development of students’ logical thinking and increases their interest in national values. Furthermore, teaching traditional units of measurement broadens students’ ethnocultural understanding and fosters responsibility for preserving the heritage of their ancestors.
