Semantic Features of English Prepositions: An Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Meanings

Based on the author’s work, the features of a number of postpositions in the Kyrgyz language are considered. It is noted that despite the fact that the functions of postpositions are similar to the case endings of nouns, their functional scope is much wider. The author emphasizes that postpositions play an auxiliary role: they are used together with independent words, express the grammatical meaning of case endings, and act as connecting elements necessary to establish semantic relationships between the significant parts of speech in a sentence. It is shown that postpositions are capable of expressing the meanings of place, direction, instrument, reason, etc.
